Was 'The Last Witch Hunter' really that bad?

Check out the trailer below for a first impression...

The film, directed by Breck Eisner, was released on 23rd October 2015 in the USA with a running time of 1 hour and 46 minutes. Its New York City premiere was held 13th October 2015 at the Loews Lincoln Square. Its box office gained about $126 million during its release by Lionsgate. Unfortunately, reviews have not been very good.

For those who still have not seen it, the plot is essentially that many hundreds of years before present time a witch hunter Kaulder (played by Vin Diesel) slayed the all-powerful Witch Queen (played by Julie Engelbrecht). Before dying she cursed him to immortality so he lost his family in the wind of time and was unable to meet them again in the afterlife. From that day forward Kaulder always had a Dolan to record his activities.

Now in present day the Witch Queen is once again rising. The 36th Dolan (played by Michael Caine) is retiring and choosing the 37th Dolan (played by Elijah Wood). Sadly, he is killed, as found out by Kaulder and the 37th Dolan, by a witch called Belial (played by Olafur Darri Olafsson). When hunting Belial they receive the assistance of  Chloe (played by Rose Leslie) who's friend was also killed by that witch. As it turns out, Belial intends to be the sacrifice for the revival of the Witch Queen, who is still alive as her life is linked to Kaulder. The trio are able to kill Belial however the Witch Queen is revived by the sacrifice of another witch.

During the final fight, Kaulder is about to kill the Witch Queen and himself to end this once and for all but he is stopped by Chloe saying that the world still needs a witch hunter. The endings shows the heart of the Witch Queen still beating as Kaulder is still alive...

Ratings:

IMDb: 6/10
RottenTomatoes: 16%
Metacritic: 34%

Personally, I didn't find the film all too bad. Sure the plot twists were a bit predictable and cliche and the acting could've been better slightly, but sure it didn't deserve such negative reviews did it? Be sure to leave a comment about what you think and follow for more!

Star Wars VIII Postponed!

Disney has officially decided to postpone the release of Star Wars to 15 December 2017. It was originally meant to be released on 26 May 2017 however due to the studios wanting to do similar end-of-year release like 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens', they postponed it till Christmas. Instead of Star Wars VIII being released in March, 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales' is being moved up by Disney from 7 July 2017 to 26 May 2016.

Who knows maybe this will increase the views or possible even multiply them. But then again 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' which also followed this schedule did very well. It became one of the largest grossing films in history while also making a box office of $1.961 billion. If 'Star Wars VIII' follows the example set by its prequel, everyone working on it will suddenly be a whole lot richer!
It's ratings were similarly high:
IMDb: 8.4/10
RottenTomatoes: 92%
Metacritic: 81%

Nothing has been released by Disney about the plot itself, however one of the actors, namely C3-PO, did threaten to release some information. He was quickly shut up by the director of the film Rian Johnson in the form of a small memory from the prequels...Or perhaps a sign that Han may be coming back from the dead, just to shut up C3-PO...

Despite Disney keeping everything hush! hush! a few small details have been discovered by very observant fans. It appears that Gwendoline Christie will reappear as Captain Phasma, although no-one is certain what she will do after escaping the destruction of the Death Star: will she be branded a traitor or will she continue to work for the First Order? Gwendoline Christie's characters are known to be strong survivalists such as her  'Game of Thrones' character Brienne of Tarth on which she performed brilliantly! She certainly deserves a longer amount of showtime in the new film.

Another person who need a longer amount of showtime is none other that Luke Skywalker (played by, as I'm sure you all knew, Mark Hamill). We only saw him standing on the island in the last scene of 'The Force Awaken' so in the new film we are expecting more action from one of the last Jedi.

Dirty Grandpa: In Cinema!

Another much anticipated film which probably isn't doing so well after its release, like Ride Along 2, is probably Dirty Grandpa. Starring Zac Efron, Robert DeNiro, Aubrey Plaza, Adam Pally, Zoey Deutch and others the film is about a very strict lawyer, Jason Kelly, (played by Zac  Efron) who is about to get married to his boss' daughter (Julianne Hough). At his grandmother's funeral, his grandfather, Dick (played by Robert DeNiro) asks him to drive him home to Florida.

On the journey they end up going to Daytona Beach, Florida while also meeting old classmates of Jason, Shadia and Lenore and Bradley. Through their time at Daytona many incidents occur such as drugs, jail time and various encounters with a gang which is continuously beaten off by Dick. Furthermore, with Dick putting himself back 'out there' and flirting with any girls around, there are many incidents caused. The film depicts the relationship between Jason and his grandfather which is not so close in the beginning but gets very strong by the end of the film.

Check out the trailer...

Personally, I thought the film would be great since it would be the kind of funny film which had a deeper meaning that meant a lot to the viewers. But now, looking at the reviews, I think they might've put the pressure on the comedy in the film more than the actual deeper meaning that I was expecting.

In the end, the pair are actually very close with Jason even breaks off his engagement to confess his feeling for Shadia. In the mid-credits it's shown that Dick and Lenore have a son, who is Jason's uncle, but Jason and Shadia are his godparents.
